Jersey Historic Trust Research - Pohatcong and Warren County We plan to include instructions on researching villages, individual properties and family names associated with Pohatcong Township and the surrounding areas. This section will include how to do deed searches to find property owners, how to get personal inventories used to settle estates, how to find census records, etc. We will also gather a collection of local histories and place them under our History section. For those who can't wait, many Warren County records from 1824 to present are available at the Warren County Courthouse and Library, both in Belvidere, NJ. The My Raub (and More) Ancestry website features features a Quick Reference Guide to researching history in Warren County compiled by John O'Brien. Research - New Jersey New

Society of New Jersey Maps American Memory - This Library of Congress site offers more than 7 million digital items from more than 100 historical collections. To find early Pohatcong maps, click 'Collection Finder' at the top of the screen and then select Maps under 'Original Format' . Once on the search page, enter 'new jersey' into the search field and 'Match this exact phrase' and you'll get 154 NJ-related maps, many of which are from the 18th and 19th centuries. Most enable you to zoom into the Pohatcong area. One interesting map is "The Province of New Jersey, divided into East and West, commonly called the Jerseys" - Engraved & published by William Faden circa 1778 which refers to the Pohatcong Creek as the Pohantunk and identifies the area known as 'Chelsea' which is thought to be the precursor of Finesville. Another map refers to the Pohatcong Creek as the Pohatcunk River. And still another refers to the Musconetcong River as the Muskanetkunk Creek.
